Description : Founded in 1657 by teacher Marguerite Bourgeoys, and rebuilt 115 years later, this is one of the oldest churches still standing in the city. With its location near the Port of Montréal, parishioners often prayed here for the safety of the community,s sailors. In recognition of this, many fishermen and other mariners presented the church with miniature wooden ships, which hang from the vaulted ceiling today.
