Description : Halifax is the capital city of Nova Scotia, lying on the southeast-facing Atlantic coast. Its rich history focuses on the combination of Indians, the early Acadian and British settlers and the provinces role in the shaping of Canada as a nation.
The earliest evidence of human habitation dates back 10,500 years around Debert near the Minas Basin. The Mikmaq (often anglicized as Micmac) called the area Chebuctook, or Great Long Harbour. It is believed that Vikings have visited the area around 1000 AD, as evidenced by a stone with Nordic runes near Cape Forchu.
