Description : INUVIK – the place of man – is the farthest north you can drive on a public highway in North America, unless, that is, you wait for the winter freeze and follow the ice road carved across the frozen sea to the north.
It is well worth a visit to the Western Arctic Regional Visitor Centre, for information about the community of Inuvik, and to see the displays about the whole western Arctic region.


Inuvik is the meeting place of the Inuvialuit & Gwich,in peoples, who have lived in the western Arctic for thousands of years. It is located at the mouth of the Mackenzie River Delta, largest river delta north of the Arctic Circle in North America, and some 6200 square kilometers in area.
